If Only Someone Had A Gun...

As unbelievable as it may seem, there is one asshole*, Representative Louie Gohmert of Texas, who actually came out and lamented that the principal of Sandy Nook Elementary School didn't have a gun in the school:
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) on Sunday said he wished the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary had been armed so she could have protected the school when a gunman burst in and started spraying bullets.

“I wish to God she had had an M4 in her office locked up so when she heard gunfire she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands, when she takes him out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids,” Gohmert said on “Fox News Sunday.”

The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, has been credited with running into the hallway toward the shooter once the gunfire sounded at the Newtown, Conn. school. Twenty-six people, including Hochsprung and 20 children, were shot dead.
Well, hell, maybe the shooter's first victim, his own mother, should have had a gun to defend herself and stop all of this....oh, wait:
Nancy Lanza loved guns, and often took her sons to one of the shooting ranges here in the suburbs northeast of New York City, where there is an active community of gun enthusiasts, her friends said. At a local bar, she sometimes talked about her gun collection.

t was one of her guns that was apparently used to take her life on Friday. Her killer was her son Adam Lanza, 20, who then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he killed 26 more people, 20 of them small children, before shooting himself, the authorities said.

Ms. Lanza’s fascination with guns became an important focus of attention on Saturday as investigators tried to determine what caused Mr. Lanza to carry out one of the worst massacres in the nation’s history.

Investigators have linked Ms. Lanza to five weapons: two powerful handguns, two traditional hunting rifles and a semiautomatic rifle that is similar to weapons used by troops in Afghanistan. Her son took the two handguns and the semiautomatic rifle to the school. Law enforcement officials said they believed the guns were acquired legally and were registered.
Some people don't know when to keep their damn fool mouths shut, and Gohmert is one of the prime examples.

In contrast, the NRA has shut down their Facebook page and hasn't tweeted since early Friday morning, when the horrendous events in Newtown were taking place. While their silence, regardless of how temporary it might be, is a pleasant change of pace. However, you'd think that the cowards might have at least extended their sympathies and condolences (and apologies) to the victims, their families and the community.

*Sorry for the language, but that's the least offensive term that accurately describes him.

  1. Someone had a gun, WMDs to be precise. Problem stated, remedy should be obvious. Outlaw and confiscate as many as can be located. No monetary remuneration unless voluntarily surrendered.
