Mitt Romney and the Univision Interview

Apparently, it's come down to this. Mitt Romney did an interview on the Spanish-language station Univision a few nights ago. Everyone who saw it noticed something was a bit....different about Mitt. Well, I'll let this photo do the explaining:

He's hitting Boehner levels with this look. Soon, he'll be outdoing Trump.
Look at his face, then at his hands. Not only was this...tan, intentional, it was applied horrifically. Romney joked in the hidden camera fundraiser tapes that if he'd only been born to parents who were Mexican, he would win the presidency. Not only is this borderline racist, it's terribly offensive.

Latinos are a large voter group in this years election and both sides are doing their best to appeal to them, their issues and their needs. They represent a growing block of voters. But they're just average Americans who deserve to be treated with respect. Romney's stance on immigration, like all of his other "stances" seems to change depending on who he's speaking to, the time of day, the month, the temperature outside, but for this, let's choose his stance during the GOP debates. Romney said on immigration, and I quote -

"The answer is self-deportation, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can't find work here because they don't have legal documentation to allow them to work here," he said. "And so we're not going to round people up."

In essence, he would like to see immigrants be void of all financial and socioeconomic means, instead of implementing any kind of fair, lawful immigration policy, he hopes they become so miserable here that they see themselves out the door and back to the nations they immigrated from. I can't fathom something so ridiculously stupid that wouldn't work to begin with. And not only is it stupid, it's not going over well with voters. He has bare minimum support from Latino voters.

No one knows every single immigrants reason for coming here. For example, a lot of women immigrate to get away from prostitution and sexual trafficking in their home countries. Families bring their kids here so they can have better options at a decent life and in turn, their kids want to get an education and/or serve bravely in our military (DREAMer's.) People come for better job opportunities. So to suggest we essentially just starve them away is ridiculous. These are people we are referring to. This is America. We don't do that.

This stunt Romney pulled on Univision is just another reminder of how unqualified he is to be president. Instead of presenting decent, kind immigration policy, he'd rather don a bad fake tan and pretend he's someone he is not. He's a liar, and a tremendous phony. Phony...just like his entire presidential campaign.

  1. Romney looks in that photo like the white actors who used to play Mexicans in the older Hollywood movies. Pathetic. He truly must think his audience is stupid.

The massive influx of Mexican immigrants can be tied directly to the NAFTA free trade agreement which permitted companies like Cargill to flood Mexico with cheap corn. This destroyed the livelyhood of the small peasant farmers, forcing them to either give up their land and start a new life in the slums of Mexico City, slaving in the border factories or to keep their family on the land by working in the United States and sending money back to them. That's the world that neoliberal free trade creates.

NAFTA also makes it so much easier to bring truckloads of cocaine, heroin and meth across the border, while the drug war in Mexico makes even more people want to flee their country.

The neoliberal economists claim that unfettered free trade is a win-win when in reality it has proven to be a lose-lose-lose.

In my view the majority of the immigrants are heroes who have chosen to do the best for their families even though it means breaking the laws written by peole like Romney who are attempting to destroy their lives.
