The Walker Budget Keeps Working! Part XCVI

Healthcare jobs? We don't need no stinking healthcare jobs!
Marshfield Clinic has cut about 50 positions systemwide since January, with more staff reductions likely on the way, its top executive said Thursday.

The cuts, out of about 8,000 Clinic employees at more than 50 locations in Wisconsin, have included layoffs, attrition, rescinded job offers and full-time staffers reduced to part-time, Clinic President Dr. Brian Ewert said. The reductions have been in a variety of departments and Clinic sites.

"There will be some (more layoffs)," Ewert said. "These types of decisions are made with the utmost seriousness."

Ewert didn't know how many more jobs will be cut, but he said the staff reductions will continue to be spread throughout different departments systemwide and include a variety of measures, such as leaving some open positions unfilled or reducing hours at some clinics.
In Fitzwalkerstan, the only healthcare you need is don't get sick!

  1. We could see the writing on the wall when the Koch budget went through. The Marshfield School District was getting their insurance through a division of Marshfield Clinic, but were forced to take a cheaper (and of course, lower coverage)plan after the Koch budget was initiated.

I argued with acquaintances saying this is what we were going to see. A snowball effect on local businesses. All local businesses. Dentists have had to cut staff and hours. People are foregoing treatment of ailments due to lack of money to cover deductibles. Car dealerships have cut back, restaurants, and stores as well. We've had "new business" fold in months because of the Koch budget. Here's another example. The local music shop will probably suffer, since the school district just said they were pushing back the start of band\orchestra by 1 year. That means, his business will not see any new instrument sales\leasing for one year. Do you think that will cause problems?

I've got a department meeting today, and I just hope the news isn't the same news I got about a year ago from my last job.

  2. FYI - the Insurance company that the Marshfield School district switched to that was cheaper was WEA trust!

  3. Marshfield Clinic is, like Mayo Clinic, a criminal enterprise whose primary mission (in total complicity with the insurance providers) is the maximization of profits for their shareholders, and to support the lavish compensations paid to the likes of Dr. Ewert, his contemporaries at the other corporate clinics, and the bloated layers of management between the CEOs and the (largely overworked and underpaid) troops. The provision of health care is secondary by a large margin.
