I am proud to announce that my friend, Laura Hauser-Menting, is going to be running for the 71st Assembly District:

Another candidate with close ties to the Portage County Democratic Party has entered the race for the 71st District Assembly seat.

Laura Hauser-Menting, until a few weeks ago the co-chairwoman of the Portage County Democratic Party, announced Friday she is running to replace Rep. Louis Molepske Jr., D-Stevens Point.

Hauser-Menting, 40, of Stevens Point, had stepped down from the local party to take a job with a political action committee, but when she learned that Molepske wasn't running, she changed her mind. Hauser-Menting said she was inspired to run after hearing stories of people's hardships as she traveled the state on recent political campaigns.

"There are too many sad stories out there," Hauser-Menting said.

I'll be interviewing Laura in the upcoming weeks.

So much for taking any time off after the recall...but for some reason, I really don't mind. Laura is going to make one helluva representative!
