County's Transit System Is A Mess - Who Can Fix It?

The Milwaukee County Transit System is like the HMS Titanic, taking on water and sinking fast.

So what do the potential captains propose to do to fix it?

Jeff Stone wants to turn the ship around and hit the iceberg a few more times.

Chris Abele wants to rearrange the deck chairs.

Jim Sullivan wants to fix the hole, pump out the water and invite everyone to the captain's table for dinner.

The choice couldn't be any clearer.  I want to survive and I want Milwaukee County to survive.

On transit, Sullivan wins, hands down.

  1. There doesn't seem to be any winning solution to this problem.

An increase in the sales tax to fund transit or even parks and culture will never happen with Skippy and the republican controlled legislatures who will not increase any taxes or they would be exposed as hypocrates.

Even if there was a sales tax with an offset in property taxes, property taxes would probably not go down very much. There is just too much money needed for deferred maintenance of the infrastructure in Milwaukee County, (thanks a lot Skippy!) An increase in sales taxes would lower property taxes and get people who are not property owners in Milwaukee County to help pay for the services. That would be great. It could actually bring in money from the surrounding counties, like Waukesha and Ozaukee, who get benefits from economic power of Miwaukee County.

Why is it that we have a sales tax to pay for Miller Park? A gift to the private sector. So many people in Milwaukee County and the surrounding counties are being forced to pay for this structure that was just given to a private organization, while so many of the people that are paying for it can not even afford to attend one event inside. Why is it that we have to pay for this stadium for a bunch of millionairs to throw a ball around, owned by a bunch of billionairs, when we are not allowed the opportunity to pay for a public parks system that ALL of us could use?
This is just my opinion, but I would rather pay a sales tax to have a place where my kids or my neighbors kids could have a place to play. I get a better feeling watching my kids or my neighbors kids playing that I get watching any professional player.

My thanks to the dumb@&&es who won't let us fund our parks in Milwaukee County. As "King Tommy" said, "Stick it to 'em."
