An Expensive Display Of Futility

Does the Milwaukee County Board even have a clue anymore?

  1. Perhaps they do. Walker didn't need to elicit their vote. By law, he has the power to furlough without their consent.

However, he knows that they know how bad the situation truly is. He knew that they would vote for more furloughs, so he included them in to add more validity to the move.

  2. No, it does not give it more validity. It was a meaningless gesture that only will serve to give Walker cover for his own ineptitude.

It's a good thing we started MCF when we did, to shine the light of truth on Walker, eh?

  3. Sure, Capper. It had nothing to do with the gubernatorial election, right? The timing was just coincidental.

  4. Well, of course it has something to do with the election. Instead of doing his job, Walker has chosen to sacrifice Milwaukee County in his blind race for the governorship.

MCF, of course, isn't about the election. It IS about stopping Walker from doing more damage with his selfishness and avarice.

  5. Perhaps, someday, the County Board will actually vote to reduce their own pensions instead of all other County employees. That could be a good days work. It might actually be a gesture of good faith toward the employees, actually sharing in the burden of the budget cuts.

  6. Anon,

I don't know much about the benefits of the County Board, but I was informed that the County Board doesn't work enough (part time) to make any real contributions to their pensions anyway. Unless you think the move would be appropriate in terms of gestures.

  7. Capper,

You and I live on different planets. You are so wrapped up on your union planet that you have lost sight of the fact that government is responsible to the taxpayers. We don't have jobs because it's owed to us; we have jobs because the taxpayers, for some reason or another, want specific services. We are there for the taxpayer; the taxpayer does not exist so we can have pensions.

  8. We certainly do live in two different worlds. I never said anything about the pension, yet you attack me for it?

However, I agree with your statement about the tax payers wanting specific services, yet Walker is denying them those services while raising their taxes. Since he has laid off so many workers (and brags about it), you can't blame them. He is giving it away to his campaign contributors.
