Freedom Wins In West Bend

West Bend's library board rejects hate in unanimous vote.

Good for them.

I suppose the same people that would censor books and take away people's rights to exercise their free will and personal responsibility would oppose this video as well:

  1. That's just not true, capper. When my daughter was in middle school we objected to some of the material that was in the library and had a meeting about it with the library and school officials. I didn't consider myself a hater because I felt some of the material they had in the library was inappropriate for the age of the kids and voiced my opinion about it. Why do you feel the people in West Bend "hate" because they voiced their opinions about what they felt was inappropriate material???

  2. If I understand the issue, they were just going to move the books from 1 section to another. How is that censorship and whose rights are being violated?

  3. Hey Caps! Hate?! Damn man! I'm begging you, to quote James T., don't go down that road. Too many are already labeling those who disagree with them as Haters. Please don't sink to that level.

  4. I have to take back my comment. I did a little research into this issue and the people who filed the complaint, and I can see why you would say they "hate". It's my opinion they are trying to use their religious (righteousness) views to discriminate against gay people.

  5. Thank you, Anon.

Dan, the whole premise is about censorship.

Bill, if you look into the story like Anon did, you will see that I was accurate. Homophobe or bigot would have been equally accurate.

  7. Capper, please describe censorship if the books never leave the library. The little tykes would still have access if the parents have want them to have access.

  8. Sex with Ducks? How about Sex with cows or deer. Oh, wait, that already happened in Wisconsin. Sheep? Who knows? Like they say, men in Wisconsin- where men are men and the sheep run scared.

  9. I was just reading some more about this over at Zach's blog, and the fact these people were complaining about books in the city's public library went right over my head. For some reason I was under the impression they were complaining about the school's library. I was sympathetic at first because I know from experience how hard it is to monitor your child/children once they are in school. My sympathy didn't last long though once I read more about the people who were complaining and learned they were upset over books that dealt with homosexuality. It's not their place to force their religious views on everyone and if they don't like the books they don't have to read them. But now, I read this isn't even the school's library but the city's public library, which makes their efforts to ban these books even worse, because they shouldn't have any problems monitoring their children when they go to the public library.
