It Bears Repeating

From WSAW-TV:

Crying newborns can cause a lot of frustration for new moms and dads.

And when frustration turns to rage, it's the child that may end up severely hurt or dead.

Dr. Ralph Locher, M.D. a pediatrician with Ministry Health Care says 80 percent of fatal head trauma in infants is intentionally caused.

And there are up to 2,000 cases of shaken baby syndrome in the United States every year.

Doctors warn to never shake a baby.

"What you need to do is put your baby in a safe place, like a crib and just walk away for a few minutes. You're still close if there should be any problems but you need to just stop," said Dr. Locher.

Babies have never died from crying.

Along with taking a break, Dr. Locher also encourages parents build up a support system so others can lend a hand when necessary.

Remember, never, ever shake a baby.
