Dining With The Dems

I was fortunate enough to score a couple of tickets for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin's Founders Day Gala through the union.

It was good to see some old friends like Kay, John and Ryan.

I was also fortunate enough to meet some new friends, as well as finally meet and shake hands with Governor Doyle and Mayor Barrett. My wife and I were also able to get our pictures taken with these two men, which really made her day.

We were expecting only appetizers, but were pleasantly surprised to have a nice meal.

Then there were the usual speeches from Mayor Barrett, Joe Wineke (of the sinewy arms), Governor Doyle, Congressman Kagen, and of course, Congressman Obey, who was the keynote speaker and man of the hour.

The best two lines from the night were:
"...as homely as a basset hound on a bad day."
and
"al Qaeda doesn't like compromise. The Taliban doesn't like compromise. Rush Limbaugh might not like compromise. Sean Hannity might not like compromise. But adults do."

  2. I am really curious. What did they have for dinner? Hopefully, it was not a politically correct meal like the National Dem's.

  3. Zach,

It was more like the blind squirrel finding an acorn.

    Dan-

It started out with some sort of salad, but I don't know what type of greens they used. The main course was beef tenderloin with a light mushroom gravy, green beans and cooked carrots. Dessert was two kinds of cheesecake.

  4. Oh God, you are never going to be a food critic.
Salad of baby spinach leaves with finely diced apple and walnuts. Roasted tenderloin -two thick slices, light mushroom sauce, fresh green beans and baby carrots with tops steamed to perfection, garlic mashed potatoes and dessert was petit four sized vanilla cheese cakes (2) and 1 dark chocolate cheese with dark chocolate mousse topping, half a fresh strawberry with strawberry sauce on vanilla cheese cakes and dark choco drizzle on that cake.
I would know, capper gave me a second dessert plate when I swooned over how good it was :)
