Danaus Plexippus Issue Gains International Attention

I received an email today from a faithful reader alerting me to the fact that the proposed plan to bulldoze the Monarch Trail for a school that will be underutilized, if used at all, is gaining national attention.

There is a group called Monarch Watch, which was organized by Chip Taylor at the University of Kansas. They have what they call D-Plex (Danaus Plexippus is the Latin name for the Monarch) which is an electronic mailing and discussion group on the Internet. It has 500 subscribers from 11 countries.

The email also indicates that Taylor has already sent a letter out to the pertinent parties expressing his concern that they would do away with this critical monarch and migratory bird habitat. Taylor also encouraged all of the other subscribers to also send in letters to advocate for Walker to finally keep a promise and to preserve this land.

I've also been asked, in another email, to ask you gentle reader to not only call or write to your County Board Supervisor, but if you are available and able, to come down to the county courthouse on Monday morning to tell the board's economic and community development committee. The session begins at 9 a.m. and is held in room 201-B.
