Moving On Up?

At the beginning of the year, it was announced that George Torres, who was at that time the Director of Milwaukee County's Department of Public Works and Transit, was taking a new job. Under Walker's orders, Torres oversaw the death spiral of the public transit system and a steady decline in the infrastructure of the county. He left all that to oversee a social service agency, La Causa, who's recent claim to fame was that a number of children, including Christopher Thomas, died while under their supervision.

Over the weekend, it was announced that Corey Hoze was leaving his job as Director of Milwaukee County's Department of Health and Human Services*. He is leaving to take a job with Associated Bank, who recently was under fire for receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in bailout money, and then deciding to take hundreds of their employees for a vacation getaway to Puerto Rico.

Most people who leave their jobs voluntarily do so in order to move up in the world. Apparently, these two gentlemen perceive being the head of an agency that is in hot water for the death of foster children or being the public face of a bank that uses federal taxpayer dollars for extravagant vacations as improvements over working for Scott Walker.

*Dan Bice correctly mentions that Hoze was in charge of DHHS when the state took over the Income Maintenance Programs. What Bice neglects to tell you is that Hoze took the actions he did due to Walker's orders.
