The Sneaky MJS Editorial Board

A couple of notes on the supposedly liberal editorial board at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

First, they have been coming down hot and heavy in opposition to the paid sick leave policy. They urge an injunction be imposed on the current law in the City of Milwaukee. They also urge the surrounding suburbs to keep the voters from being able to express their voice in their own communities.

What they don't tell you, Illy T does:
But do disclose that Steven J. Smith, the chairman and CEO of the Journal-Sentinel's parent corporation, is an officer of MMAC and as such was among those who authorized the lawsuit in November.

This information may be useful to a reader.
Useful, indeed.

Then in today's "Quick Hit," their Perspectives editor, Mabel Wong, writes this:
In the debate about whether Milwaukee County should request and accept federal stimulus funds, many are characterizing the money as "free," simply too good to refuse. One may agree that spending federal stimulus dollars is a prudent investment in the future and that it is a necessary step to revive the nation's economy. But let's not delude ourselves into thinking this money is "free." There is no such thing, and the bill will come due one day.
While what Ms. Wong writes is technically accurate, it should be noted that it is not the liberals that believe the stimulus monies will be free. We know that there will be a price to pay. We also know that there will be a bigger price to pay if the money isn't taken, when we still have to pay it back, but without getting any benefit from it.

What Ms. Wong should have included, to keep the piece open and honest, is that the only ones calling the stimulus monies "free," would be the right wing, anti-Milwaukee Scott Walker and his supporters (most of whom don't even live in Milwaukee County). But then again, she wouldn't do that. After all, they support his dishonesty whenever they can.

ADDENDUM: Maybe I should apply for that community adviser position after all. They definitely could use a lefty to straighten things out over there.
